Brown County Planning and Zoning approves medical marijuana ordinance – AberdeenNews.com

A proposed ordinance regulating medical marijuana in Brown County will now be considered by county commissioners, but the planning and zoning commission added some stipulations.

The Brown County Planning and Zoning commission met in a special session Tuesday evening in the community room of the courthouse annex and recommended approval. Now the proposed ordinance will be considered by the Brown County Commission.

The medical cannabis ordinance impacts Brown County’s jurisdictional areas, or the unincorporated communities, the Brown County side of Mina Lake andjoint jurisdictional areas. Joint jurisdictional areas in Brown County are one mile beyond the city limits of Groton; one mile beyond Hecla; a half-mile beyond Frederick and one and a half miles beyond Warner.

The commission set a limit of one cannabis dispensary in the jurisdictional areas of Brown County. However, each city can draft its own laws and could have a dispensary within city limits.
